Important Oil Filter Application Information
This memo serves as an explanation and clarification on specific Chevrolet, GM, Hyundai, and Kia oil filter application. It is necessary that all sales personnel and customers be advised of these changes. It is extremely important that installer understand the difference between these specialty filters, EP and M oil filters. All sales representatives and installers users should be instructed to only use the current 2021 Service Pro filter application guide, e-catalog and our phone apps. To avoid application errors, AIOD discourages use of outdated application materials. The information contained in this memo is consistent with what is found in the printed 2021 Service Pro filter catalog, the e-catalog located on our www.service-pro.com website and the new phone apps.
New Filter UPG63R: (installers may previously have been used M2500) for many GM applications – M2500 continues to be available in the Service Pro line for GM 12690385. However, AIOD recommends use of UPG63R for GM OE 12693541. The UPG63R filter model is designed with a higher burst pressure of 450 psi for use with a higher PSI rating. The standard M2500 and E2500 do not meet this requirement.
New Filter UPG64R: (installers may previously have used M2222) for many Chevrolet applications – The new GMC V6 engine has higher oil pump pressure to accommodate engine cam phasing and high-speed bearing requirements. The UPG64R filter model is designed for those vehicles with the new oil pump control systems that require a filter with a higher PSI rating. The standard M2222 and E2222 do not meet this requirement.
New Filter 26300-35503: (installers may previously have used M10479) for many Hyundai and Kia applications – While Hyundai and Kia are still evaluating the root cause and frequency, many Hyundai and Kia applications suffer from over-pressurization issues which will cause damage when a standard filter is used. Normal operating oil pressure is between 30-45 psi, but the models in question are subjected to internal pressure more than 280 psi pressure spikes. Filter model 26300-35503 and E10479 have a higher burst pressure of over 400 psi and is designed for those vehicles requiring a filter with a higher PSI rating. The standard M10479 does not meet this requirement.
