We are excited to share that Shell Lubricants1 is launching Shell OMALA S4 GXV. This new top-tier advanced synthetic gear oil is formulated with technology designed to meet the stringent demands of today’s modern gearbox systems.

Shell OMALA S4 GXV is improved in these key areas2:

1. High Viscosity Index and Improved Low-Temperature Fluidity
Shell OMALA S4 GXV is designed to deliver effective lubrication over a broader temperature range than Shell OMALA S4 GX. The new Shell OMALA S4 GXV provides better oil flow at low temperatures while retaining the ability to operate at elevated bulk temperatures. Its low Brookfield viscosity results give a direct indication of its improved low temperature flow.

2. Low Foaming Tendency, Even with Fine Filtration
Shell OMALA S4 GXV gear lubricants have improved filterability performance and deliver excellent and retained air release, and low foam forming tendency. It retains its viscometrics and additive chemistry after filtration at various temperatures and contamination with water. This consistent performance feature will promote long gear and bearing life by limiting recirculated foam.

3. Extended Compatibility with Seals, Sealants, and Paints
Shell OMALA S4 GXV meets all the performance limits for common Freudenberg seals in static (ISO 1817) and dynamic testing (DIN 3761) and is compatible with commonly used Mäder and Rickert inner paints.

4. Siemens MD Flender Approved
Shell OMALA S4 GXV viscosity grades 150–460 cSt are approved by Siemens for Flender gearboxes and gear units against its Revision 15 for helical gear units, bevel gear units, and planetary gear units.

  • up to 47% less thickening than the maximum allowed after 312 hours at 249°F/121°C to promote efficient and consistent lubrication. It was still within the industry-standard limit after 34 days
